Welcome to the Village of St. Joseph!!!

I invite you to visit St. Joseph and see all that the Village has to offer as well as the strides we are making into the future. Whether you are looking for a great place to live or a place to spend the day shopping, ST. JOSEPH IS THE PLACE FOR YOU.

We have great local businesses. Whether you come with a shopping list or just to leisurely browse, St. Joseph has the shop for you. You can get everything you need right here in the Village.

St. Joseph is a GREAT place to live. The three main reasons that residents list for moving to St. Joseph are EDUCATION, LOCATION, AND SAFETY. St. Joseph has an EXCELLENT school system. The High School, Middle School and Grade School are consistently high scorers on the State achievement tests. St. Joseph is also close to larger communities, such as Champaign and Urbana. Interstate 74 is on the north edge of St. Joseph and Interstates 72 and 57 are 15 minutes away. There is a regional airport as well as national train service within 20 minutes of the Village. The Village is a very safe community with a low to non-existent crime rate.

2007 was a busy year for the Village and 2008 promises to be even busier.

Last year, the Village substantially finished Phase I of the new 40 acre Community Park. Finishing work is ongoing into 2008. Phase I includes 3 softball diamonds, one football/soccer field, 3 basketball courts, a roller hockey court, a large playground and a concession stand/pavilion building. The fields will be used during the 2008 seasons. The Village will be applying for a grant for Phase II for the Community Park. Phase II includes another playground and 3 baseball diamonds along with another concession stand.

The Village is in the process of upgrading and increasing the capacity of the sewer plant. A major extension of the sewer system is planned to service the area to the west of the Village.

To the west of the Village, a new 16 acre shopping center and subdivision is planned. The developer is working with the Village to annex into the Village and to hook-up to Village services. It is expected that the project will get underway in 2008.

The Village prioritized the stormwater management plan action items and worked on ways to fund the projects. The Village took another giant step in improving the Village's stormwater system in cooperation with the High School. Together they undertook a major renovation of the Village's stormwater tile which services half of the area north of Route 150. The original 18" tile which was put in place approximately 100 years ago and ran under the High School was replaced with a new 42" tile to handle the stormwater.

Crestview Subdivision was opened in 2007. Houses and lots in the first phase of a 200+ acre subdivision are being sold. The High School continues to work on its 10 million dollar expansion project. The first section was opened just after Christmas with work continuing on the rest of the project.

This year promises to be just as exciting. Work will begin on the planning and grant work for Phase II of the Community Park. The Village will continue to make progress on its Stormwater Management Plan and sewer plant upgrade. The Village will continue to learn more about the details of the regional shopping center. Housing starts are increasing already. Winter sports are wrapping up and spring and summer sports will soon be in full swing.

If you have any questions about the Village or its opportunities, I encourage you to call the Village Office at 469-7371. We'll be glad to assist you in any way possible.

We look forward to seeing you soon and often!!!
